Biography


Thomas E. Cribbs, 72, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017, at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. 

Born in Bulloch County to Thomas Ivey and Laura Ruth Cribbs, he was a major with the Hinesville Police Department until his retirement in 2016 after 41 years of service to the community.  Major Cribbs was a graduate of the FBI and GBI Academies.  He worked for the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office for 6 ½ years, becoming the first GA POST Certified Police officer.  While with the Hinesville Police Department, he was major of the Criminal Investigation Division, Firearms Instructor, and a member of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes Special Task Force.  He attended Westside Baptist Church and loved to cook for large crowds.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rita Cribbs Page.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Dowd Cribbs; daughter, Tina Cribbs Chavis of Dublin; granddaughter, Laura Chavis; former wife and special friend, Shirley Cribbs of Dublin; sister, Clara Morrison of Pembroke; a host of nieces and nephews; and his furry friends, Mocha and Kahlua.

Visitation will be 4-8 pm, Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.  The funeral will be held at 11am, Friday, February 24, 2017, at First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Hinesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the American Heart Association (ww.Heart.org), the American Kidney Foundation (Kidney.org), or the American Diabetes Foundation (diabetes.org) are requested.
